The waiting is nearly over. In less than two days, the 39th Ryder Cup kicks off at Medinah, Illinois as Europe attempt to continue to exert their stranglehold over their cross-pond opponents in the premier team event in the world of golf. Unfortunately, one person in particular appears to have forgotten that he's not actually involved...

Return to Part-Timerness

Having enjoyed the unprecedented frequency of seven rounds of golf over two weeks at the end of August, causing me to question the validity of calling myself a Part-Time Golfer, I am pleased to report a return to normality and the moniker can stay. The clubs have lain untouched in the shed for the best part of a month and will be dug out again this weekend.

Nobody needs to see that

It's been a while since I posted anything on here but, having played twice in the space of ten days at the end of July (pushing me nicely over the line to complete a 2012 goal of playing ten rounds) I've got a fair bit of food for thought. I also wanted to go through the cathartic exercise of writing down my thoughts about a particularly unpleasant bout of dummy spitting which marred my round at Chesfield Downs GC this week.

Back in December, I made some predictions as to how the 2012 golfing calendar might pan out for the majors, Ryder Cup and world rankings. As we are halfway through the cycle of majors, I thought I would do a quick progress report.

My Bethpage experience

I have previously written about the presence of Bethpage Black on my golfing 'bucket list' and, luckily, I was able to tick this item off just over a week ago. I was also fortunate enough to play more than just the Black course, so this documents my whole Bethpage Experience - the Black & Green courses on the Saturday and the Yellow on the Sunday.

One of my biggest bugbears about golf and, indeed, professional sport in general, is the curse of the avoidable injury. I have previously written about this issue when Paul Casey popped his shoulder whilst snowboarding back in January and, since then, there have been further instances of this which really winds me up. So much so, in fact, I feel compelled to write it down.

Don't let tradition hamper progress

The news yesterday that the BBC might lose its exclusive broadcasting rights to the Open Championship has sparked a frenzied debate. Traditionalists argue that The Open is a crown jewel and should be available to all whilst others would be quite happy to see the cosy relationship challenged in a commercial tender process. 2012 golfing goals - Q1 progress report

I have previously published my (short) list of golfing goals for 2012 and so, with the first three months passing by, I thought I would produce the first quarterly progress report. This will help me understand and stay on top of these ambitions and what is left to do in order to complete them before the year is out.

Well, that was nice, wasn't it?

Luck. Most people have their fair share of it. Some people have more than others. When it comes to prizes & competitions involving nothing more than chance, I'm not usually holding my breath to be involved. So when I saw a tweet offering a free round of golf at a nearby course this caught my eye and got me out on the fairways (well, some of the fairways) for the second time in two weeks. How lucky would I be?
